The EF General English Course is a carefully composed full-time English course for adults designed to help you move up one EF course level every six weeks with proof of your progress. We measure your language skills before your English course begins and after it’s complete with the EFSET suite – which includes a placement test, progress test and graduation test.

EF’s General Course, which is our classic English course for adults, includes 26 morning and/or afternoon lessons taught both in the classroom and iLab – focused on communicating clearly in everyday English. You’ll also have four Special Interest Lessons (SPINs), which let you customise your English course to your particular interests and needs. Examples of SPINs, depending on availability: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Idioms & Slang, Current Affairs, Modern Culture, Global Issues, History & Architecture, Literature, Interview and Resume writing.

Prove your English level for academic or professional reasons with the IELTS or IELTS Academic exam. Our IELTS preparation courses in England will improve your general English skills while preparing you to sit this rigorous exam. IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is accepted as proof of language proficiency for over 9,000 academic, professional and government organisations. It’s required for admissions to universities and student visas in many English-speaking countries. Our IELTS preparation courses in England are eight weeks or longer, but two week courses are available in Cambridge for students with advanced language skills.

You’ll expand your knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation for success in one of the the Cambridge Exams. The CAE, CPI, FCE, PET, and KET test reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English. With years of experience in administering Cambridge English exams, we’re experts in ensuring our students are equipped for top results.

Most of our schools in England are authorised exam centres, which means your Cambridge English exam will be administered by EF staff at the EF school where you took your Cambridge exam preparation course to ensure you feel confident and comfortable. Please note that general English lessons may make up some of your Cambridge Exam preparation course weeks in order to provide a base for specialised exam preparation study.

The EF Internship Experience programme combines an internship in England of 50 hours or more with a minimum 4-week intensive English course. During classroom time you’ll improve your language skills as well as learn CV writing and interviewing techniques. When your classes are finished, you’ll spend the following weeks perfecting your new language ability by working in a part-time, unpaid internship at a professional company. You’ll develop industry-specific language skills and gain valuable international work experience. At the conclusion of your internship in England, you’ll receive an internship certificate.

f you are looking for a longer internship in England, try our Internship Plus Programme, where you can take a 6+3 programme (6 months of language studies and then a 3 month internship). Availability depends on visa regulations and for immigration reasons, internships cannot be more than 33% of the total length of stay.
