IB Diploma vs. IB Certificate

  • IB Diploma

In order to receive the International Baccalaureate® Diploma, you will need to complete the three “core” components in addition to taking external exams in their subjects. At the end of the exam period, you can receive a total score of 45 points.

  • IB Certificate

In the US, you have the option of the more flexible International Baccalaureate® Certificate program, which allows you to take IB exams only in your strongest areas. In this program, the “core” is not required, which means you have more time to focus on co-curricular activities or TOEFL/IELTS or SAT/ACT preparation.

*All EF Academy students who successfully complete their high school studies at our U.S. campus will automatically be awarded a nationally recognized New York State High School Diploma in addition to their IB qualification.
