New Zealand’s Stunning Capital
Sandwiched between two glittering harbors, Auckland is often referred to as the City of Sails due to the hundreds of boats dotting its waters. Auckland is perched near the top of New Zealand’s sub-tropical North Island and is surrounded by a number of extinct volcanoes. Locals are a cosmopolitan bunch, but just about everyone spends their weekends embracing New Zealand’s unparalleled natural beauty.
Auckland is by far New Zealand’s most populous and multicultural city. Auckland seamlessly mixes residents from European, Asian and Polynesian descents. Students in EF’s English courses in Auckland are quickly drawn to the thriving Maori culture and a visit to Pou Kapua, the world’s tallest Maori and Pacific carving, is a must. New Zealand is widely considered the adventure capital of the world and there’s plenty here to get your heart racing. Within city limits, students can bungee jump from the Auckland Harbor Bridge and walk along the edge of the famous Skytower. On the weekend, students head south to take guided tours of the world-famous Franz Josef Glacier or to hike the epic Milford Track. New Zealand is a relatively small island nation, but the experiences here are larger than life.
